Foodstuff abolishment and self-sufficient rate of Japan

Japan is a country which throws away a lot of food, even said to be “the country which has the highest rate of foodstuff abolishment”

By supposition, 20~30% of the foodstuffs which can be eaten are thrown away.
And about 42% of domestic garbage is food scraps, and about 30% of the food scraps are said to be untouched.

From these, Japan can be a country which produces a lot of leftovers.
This is as much as the amount about 66.5 billion people can eat in a year.

Foodstuffs abolishment can be said to be one of Japanese food problems.

Also, speaking of Japanese food problems, there is food self-sufficiency problem.
The food self-sufficiency of 2011 is 39%, the rate of cereal crops is 27%, and they are the lowest among developed countries.

In short, Japan imports foodstuffs from other countries and throws away a lot.
