Food self-sufficiency and import dependence

The Japan's food self-sufficiency rate has fallen to 39%.
This is the worst among developed countries.

Except rice, most of the rate has decreased since 1965, and we depend on import.
The main reason is said to be the change of dietary habit.

Every year, westernization of Japanese food culture has been coming on and the consumption of meat has been increasing from the habit of rice and vegetables.
And recently, the amount of intake of deep-frozen food, processed foods, and food which includes fatty ingredient has been increasing.
And their ingredients are imported from other countries.

If this goes on, we will be caught in the era of jack-up of the food price which has already begun.
When this happens, we won't be able to take measures to cope with the food crisis caused by the increase of the world population and the demand of bio-based fuel.

If the food crisis happens, each country will try to feed foods their people and stop exporting their foods.
In that case, we will have to feed ourselves in Japan.
