Pre-Training

Next Generation Leaders dojo

We had English practices, Seminal, and Japanese history learning. We learned words and expression to take communication in the house and the school. We practiced to discuss and answer and explain questions from teachers.
In the seminal, we decided original research theme and each of us research about the theme through this program. Everyone have different theme.
My theme is “Needs of Japanese products in America”.

We learned Japanese culture to explain it in English.
Ⅰ We learned how to wear Yukata(Japanese traditional cloth), how to use Furoshiki(traditional wrapping), and Origami.
Ⅱ We watched and experienced “Noh” at National Noh Theater. Noh is a traditional Japanese show.
Ⅲ We watched Kabuki show at Kabukiza
Ⅳ We learned Japanese history after Edo Period (about 1900th~)
Ⅴ We had a field work. We visited some remains in Tokyo. We visited Mitsubishi Minatomirai Industrial Musiam.

Seminal: Research Project

Theme: Needs of Japanese products in America
 ~To develop attractive products~
1 Purpose of the research
To recognize how Japanese products are used in foreign countries and what we should do to develop better products in the future. I research the needs in Japan and America, and think what appeal of Japanese products should be spread.

2 The present condition
How products and technologies are used in foreign countries depends on how many companies have power in the global market.
In Fortune Global 500 2014, there are 57 Japanese companies. TOYOTA is NO.9 and the top of Japanese companies. However, there are many countries have much more power in Asia. Especially, the GDP in China overtook it in Japan in 2009. China will develop more in the future, and its GDP will be three times as much as Japan will in 2020. There are 100 Chinese companies in Fortune Global 500 2014.
3 Problems
In the future, developing of countries in Asia, especially China and India will not stop.
Japanese products cannot be cheaper than their products because of personnel costs and the working population. But there are many advantages in global market. For example, companies can narrow the products to sell and can pursue their quality. Japanese market will certainly be reduced because the population of Japan will decrease. Japanese companies should appeal their products more to compete in the global market now.

4 Examination
   ・Document searching
   ・Statistics Survey
→With my friends who lived in foreign countries.
→I will do the same thing in America.
  ・Fieldwork

5 Suggestion
Japanese companies should compete in the global market not to lose the rapid development of other countries. The reason of that is to protect our status in the world and the fascinations.
I will define the fascinations of the Japanese products.
→Now, I think about these fascinations. ① Traditional cultures ② High quality with low cost

In America

I arrived in Arizona on August 19th, and I went to my school first on 21th, then the classes started on 24th. It was hard. It is really hot in summer and sunlight is so strong. Staying outside is little hard, but we always use cars to go somewhere, so it has no matter with me. However, it is about as cold winter in Arizona as it is in Japan. We need a sweater and gloves.

I go to Arizona Conservatory for Arts & Academics. It is a charter school about art. My favorite subject is art, so this school is so good for me. This school is not so strict as Koishikawa, so I like my school. We have 7classes in one day (it starts 8 am and finish 4 pm) but we don’t have school on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It is similar as the schedule in Koishikawa.

One class is 56 minutes, but it is not so long for me. We have to take a lot of notes in Japanese school, but we have mane discussions and projects in here. I really like them. My favorite class is theater class. We learned staging and history of theater, and we do improvisation game. We also made original monologues and play by ourselves. It has a lot of fun.
I take band class, too. I rent the trumpet and play it.

My host family is little big. I have one older host sister, two younger host sister (they are twins), and one younger brother. We have one dog, too. I spend really happy life with my host family. We usually watch movies and dramas. Host sisters and brother like Japanese anime and manga, and we often watched Naruto, Attack on Titan, and so on. My host father is an Indian, so I can eat rice, curry, and other Asian foods. We sometime go to Asian markets. I have no problems about foods. They like to have trip. I went Connecticut in this fall break and visited New York.

I have many friends in here. Japanese pop culture is popular with American teens. They notice my charms and talk to me. It is tough to finish my homework every day, but I don’t have any big problems. Everything is going well in my American life.
