We support teenagers who consider studying abroad and science cource

Tokyo Metoroporitan Koishikawa Secondary Education school

Overseas sciens cource IB program

Before going to Australia

Training

This training was carried out for the purpose of experiencing math and science classes abroad. Participants was 10 this year. They have prior training for the one week before departure and they got ready for taking science and math classes in English.

Adelaide

Gulenunga

We went to Glenunga International High School in Adelaide. There were students of various nationalities there. This Photo is a world map at the corridor. Many dots on the map show countries students came from.
Gulenunga is the only public school that certifies International Baccalaureate Diploma program in South Australia. The International Baccalaureate (IB) is an international education program offered by the International Baccalaureate, which headquarters is in Geneva.

Class

Physics

We studied the field of electricity. Each Student used laptop in any class. They inputted experimental data into their laptop after the experiment. They also read textbooks and handout on the screen in physics class.
August 5th experiment (calibrating a thermistor)
August 6th experimental (series connection and parallel connection of resistance)
August 10th classroom lectures (Ohm's law, resistivity, power consumption, series connection bets parallel connection of resistance, calculation)
August 12th experimental (circuit and the fuse, demonstration experiment power dissipation power consumption and KK)
August 13th classroom lectures (voltage divider, rheostat, internal resistance, emf and internal resistance of a power pack power (experiment), demonstration Experiment)

Class

Chemistry

They took two chemical classes, Pre-IB Chemistry class of 10th grade (first grade students at Japanese high school) and IB Chemistry class of 11th grade. They learned the structure of the atom in the 10th grade class. This was what they had already learned in Japan and they also studied English terminology in the prior training, so they were able to understand it. However, there was the explanation of an apparatus called mass spectrograph, which they have never heard. It was very hard to understand its principle in English. The class paid more attention than Japanese one in how the knowledge of science has been applied to technology. They learned about the energy of chemical reaction in the 11th grade class. Experiments was also carried out several times.

Class

Other classes

They had not only science and math classes but also English and Chinese classes. They read “The stranger” in the English class of grade 11 and "Of Mice and Men" in the class of grade 10. Their teachers spoke very quickly in the both class on the assumption that students have already read them, so it was incomprehensible for Japanese students. The difference from class in Japanese was that students were active. Japanese students were surprised that Australian students answered positively to teacher’s question. In Chinese class they wrote E-mail in Chinese with buddies who can speak Chinese,
