Firefly
Approximately 40 kinds are known in Japan.
They are distributed over each place from Honshu and to the south and
hatch from May through June. The various kinds of larvae live in the floor
of the wet forest and eat soil animals such as ground conches and earthworms,
millipedes such as snails or land snails.
Nocturnal fireflies like Genji firefly and Heike firefly shine well, diurnal fireflies like Oba firefly hardly shine. In contrast,
most kinds emit light in an egg and the larval times.
This is the larva of the firefly. The size is approximately 1cm.
The larva shines clearly at night.
