サルスベリ
・サルスベリ
中国南部が原産の夏を代表する木で、葉は冬に落ちます。枝の先に夏から秋まで花を咲かせます。 花の色は、白、ピンク、深紅色を含みます。 花は、6枚の花びらです。
満開時は、よく目立っています。
花が咲いたあと、楕円状の種を作ります。種は散らばります。 種は、細い羽のような翼があります。
樹皮は褐色で所々はがれて白い肌があらわれ、縞模様になります。樹皮のはがれた部分はつるつるしているところから、「猿も滑って落ちる→猿滑り」というのが、名前の由来とされています。漢字では「百日紅」という漢字を当てますが、これは開花期間が長いところに由来しています。
