This allergy causes inflammation by various chemical substances released when antigen-stimulated T cells attack the antigen. Type IV allergy is also called "delayed allergy" because it has a characteristic that the time from the invasion of allergens to the actual response is long.

Examples of symptoms are rejection in organ transplantation, contact dermatitis, chronic atopic dermatitis, etc.
