Rejection of organ transplantation

The immune system attempts to eliminate transplanted organs as foreign bodies. This condition is classified as type IV because T cells are involved.

Conditions to reject

The immune system is not always rejecting the transplanted organs. Only when the type of leukocyte (called HLA) does not match, the immune system will reject it. When it enters the rejection movement, it activates the antibody, causing tissue injury or making a thrombus to stop blood flow and cause death.

HLA match probability is 1% or less

Since there are many kinds of HLA for each person, the probability that the transplant source and the transplantation HLA agree is 0.0001%, which is considerably low. In most cases, organ transplant is carried out even if HLA does not match, while at the same time "immunosuppressant" is prescribed to prevent rejection.

Detail of immunosuppressant【Development】

It is a medicine used to suppress rejection during transplantation. We will only prescribe for a period of one month after transplantation where rejection is most likely to occur. It weakens the function of the immune system and prevents rejection.
If you prescribe this medicine, it certainly will not cause rejection, but immunity is also weakened, so it becomes easy to become infected with serious infections.

Examples of immunosuppressants 【Development】

Steroid medicine, calcineurin inhibitor, antimetabolite, mTOR inhibitor Z

These are examples of immunosuppressant.
