The Sukiya Style

In the seventeenth century, syoin residences with a rather different design appeared. Exterior features included a convex roof covered with shingles,a covered verabda with an earth floor, and coloured earth walls. Inside the building, papered partition walls with gold and blue paintings were replaced by earth walls and a simple, battened ceiling. Design changes extended to a whole variety of details and fitting.

There are a lot of houses like Sukiya Style in Japan now. This picture is typical Sukiya Style(including Shoin Style).
