It is Peace Winds Japan (PWJ) which is an active NPO corporation originating in Japan. The purpose of the “Peace Wanko Japan” project where PWJ operates with dog protection / transfer activity as its center is to eliminate the culling of dogs and cats produced by human selfishness, realize true coexistence between pets and human beings It is.
PWJ itself is an NPO that carries out support activities for people exposed to threats such as conflict, disaster, poverty.
Why do organizations that help such people do dogs and cats? For PWJ it’s a dog and a cat are disaster support companions but in order to break down the situation where a fellow dog is slaughtered so much, by taking advantage of the network and social change experience cultivated so far and adapting it nationwide Peace Wanko Project started from what I thought was necessary to build.

It is partnered with a German prodog school, which is a developed place of animal welfare, and it is a world level program composition.
The person who acquired the qualification here is a shelter of Peace Wanko Japan, and training such as a disaster rescue dog and a therapy dog is done by working at a transfer center etc.

3. Culling zero challenge

Currently, about 15,000 dogs in Japan and about 67,000 cats are disposed of by hand in Japan.
To overcome this situation, we started taking over all dogs in April 2016 at the Kamishi Takahara-cho Hiroshima prefecture. In Peace Wanko Japan, we are trying to spread the consciousness of dogs’ proper way of keeping animals and animal welfare in cooperation with the government, companies and communities.
In addition, Peace Wanko Japan practices “five freedoms” of animals with the aim of realizing zero slaughter based on “Animal Welfare”.

  • What is five freedoms? . .
  • Freedom from hunger and thirst
  • Pain, injury, freedom from illness
  • Freedom from fear and oppression
  • Freedom from discomfort
  • Freedom to take natural action

Peace Wanko Japan, which started activities in Hiroshima Prefecture, which had been the worst first place since 2011, reduced the number of casings year by year, and eventually achieved the number of cullings in 2016.
The number of cullings is zero is not a temporary one, it is a sustainable target, and we are still continuing to kill the number of cullings.

What is Animal Welfare

It is a breeding method that keeps hearts close to livestock as sensitive creatures, makes stress as little as possible, from birth to death, so that a healthy life can be satisfied with behavioral requirements.
This word was originally born in the West and is defined as “feeding management of livestock considering comfort”.
In Japanese translation, it may be translated as “animal welfare” or “livestock welfare”, but the concept of “welfare” lacks the concept of “original happiness” or “living well” and there is a risk of misunderstanding “Animal welfare” rather than “animal welfare” may be written.

Conclusion

Although I thought that all the animals that were taken to the public health center at first were to wait for being killed, I learned that there is a business called Peace Wanko Japan, and when I looked it up, it was taken over by a public health center Knowing that 74.1% of the animals were returned or transferred, it turned out that not all were killed. Meanwhile, we also saw the reality that 25.3% were killed.
Hiroshima prefecture, the home of the Peace Wanko Japan project, had 8,340 cullings of dogs and cats combined in 2011 (2,342 dogs, 5,998 cats) and recorded the national worst.
PWJ first began taking over the whole head of the dog targeted for cullage in Hiroshima after April 2016 in line with “the 1000 daily plan of the dog culling in Hiroshima” that we have been working since the fall of 2013, Zero disposal “was realized and was surprised.
Even in the nationwide worst prefecture, we were able to achieve zero culling, so if we adopted it in all over Japan, we should be able to reduce the number of cullings in Japan as a whole …
