Measures for 2020

What kind of measures of heatstroke are taken for Tokyo Olympics?

◎ New Techniques of pavement
・Water retention pavement … Fill the opening of pavement with water retention material and make temperature of road decrease with the heat of rigorization which generated when the water evaporated.


・Thermal insulation pavement … Reduce the rise in the temperature by the reflection of light at the surface of the road.

→ JOC considers using this type of pavement at the marathon.
◎ To put seat air conditioning
　… By setting up air conditioning to seats, cool air from the back of the seat makes the temperature around seat down.
→ According to the experiment, WBGT was 31℃ or more without air conditioning but it became under 31℃ with air conditioning.

◎ Use of heat-proof paint and film to the architecture
　… Heat-proof painting is recognized as effective in lowering temperature by about 20%. Heat-proof Films have the effect of reducing the heat inside.
→ They can be used easily for age-old facilities.
◎ Use of high function fiber with the effect of heat of rigorization
　… By using cool feeling material by the effect of heat rigorization and the material which has high rate of thermal conduction and thermal diffusion, it is possible to keep down the rise of body temperature and we can feel cool.
→ Clothes which are made of high function fiber make athlete’s performance better and keep volunteers in good conditions. It is expected to have the strong effect on the activities in the hot weather.
◎ Formation of the shade by planting trees
　… Ginkgo, which is planted a lot in Tokyo is pruned down every five years. By pruning down the branch, it can arrange the shape of trees and improve airflow. The plan by JOC is to cut them three years before Tokyo Olympics.
→ Planting trees makes symbol roads which represent the atmosphere of the town, the rest area and the view with the sidewalk and the roadway. Also, it gives enough shades to pedestrians.
◎ Transmission of information
　… The Leaflet about heatstroke, which is written in multilingual twitter of the Fire and Disaster Management call attention to heatstroke.
→ Measures in multilingual languages like English, Chinese, Portuguese and Spanish were already distributed visitors from around the world.
