Specific Example 1 Animals

Fish

Research using genomic editing technology to make fish saying " muddy heavy birds and puffer has progressed, and it has come to a stage before practical use.
Red sea bream seemed to take three years to grow and propagate, which was a disadvantage. So, I decided to make a red muddy, red sea bream, from the idea of rapidly growing red sea bream, and increasing the amount of muscle increase supply volume .
By using the technique of CRISPR / Cas9 to suppress the increase of muscle cells, we have succeeded in increasing the amount of muscles by promoting the increase of muscle by giving a defect to the substance called "myostatin".
It seems that research is progressing at Kinki University and Kyoto University.

Livestock

In the USA, "cattle without horns" and "disease resistant swine" have been developed.
The chance for this research to be done is to look at the global malnutrition problem . It was done from the desire to help one billion people who are currently suffering from hunger with the motto of doubling the production of food by 2050.

1.A horn without horns
A dairy cow, by nature, has horns. As a result, cattle are hurt each other and there is a risk that human beings are dangerous. Therefore, when growing to a certain extent, I cut off the corner. But in the process, there are cases where people died.
This also required " cow without horns ".
There have been people who have done research to develop cows without corners. However, with the breed improvement so far, there is the possibility that both the property of producing quality milk and the property of producing quality meat may be lost. Then, the meaning of breed improvement will be lost.
So I thought of pinpoint removal of genes that eliminate corners .

2.Sick tolerant pig
There is a virus called "PRRS" in swine diseases that pig farmers are most afraid of. This causes pig infections. The virus that appeared in the 1980s spread to pigs around the world, causing disease, death, and miscarriage. As a result, it is happening that the loss of a pig farmer is 600 million dollars a year (current Japanese yen is calculated at 66 billion yen [calculated at 110 dollars per dollar]).
In order to overcome such a crisis, a research team came up to develop disease resistant pig . The research team that conducted this study produced pigs that do not infect the PRRS virus using CRISPR / Cas 9.
