Specific Example 3 Medical

AIDS

An experiment on whether people infected with AIDS virus (HIV) can be cured by genome editing was done in the United States in 2014. At that time, one of the 12 subjects who got subjects was able to obtain the result that HIV disappeared from blood, and six people got immunity.

It was a treatment method called antiretroviral therapy which took many kinds of medicine in the past. This was also something with a heavy burden such as side effects .
The treatment thought so is to break the leukocyte genes in the blood partly by genome editing technology so that the AIDS virus does not do it any more. In this clinical trial, it was done by stabbing a needle into HIV-infected person, collecting blood, then genome editing and returning it to the body.
The outcome of this clinical experiment appeared immediately after returning blood to the body. From the condition that it is necessary to take a medicine, it is not always necessary to take medicine, and so it changed.

There is also such a newspaper article.
Asahi Shimbun successfully with cultured cells to cure HIV infection with digital genome editing Kobe University (May 19, 2018) (Link to Asahi Shimbun Website)

In May 2018, the group of Kobe University succeeded in destroying HIV genes using genome editing. By using CRISPR / Cas9 technology, I was able to almost stop the work of HIV.

You can cure diseases by genome editing as well.

Yeah. However, there is not much debate about how to cure diseases.
