We interviewed with Cafe Mitikusa!

In creating a web page, we said “Let's go to the site where the Ehon is actually used!!”. Therefore, we interviewed with Cafe Mitikusa!!

Cafe Mitikusa has a relaxed atmosphere, and we can read many Ehon in the cafe freely.
Ehon are also placed on the table, because the manager thinks that she wants people who are not interested in Ehon to read them.

This time, I interviewed the manager, Ms.Ogata.

Q.Why did you decide to open a Ehon cafe?

She got interested in Ehon when she was a high school student. She used to read Ehon at after-school activity, and she had thought

“I want to make a place where people can relax while reading Ehon!!!”

for 20 years.

After that, it was Cafe Mitikusa that opened about 6 years ago.

Q.What is the origin of the name Mitikusa?

She thought the content that

Don't be fidgety. Take it easy.

was wonderful in ”Mitikusa Gekizyo” written by Ryoji Arai, a picture book writer. Thus she named the cafe Mitikusa.

Q.What do you pay attention to in menu of Cafe Mitikusa?

She named the menu by thinking that “Let's make it easy for customers to imagine using actual Ehon names etc." like “Castella of Guri and Gura”.

The dishes are reproduced the ones that actually appear in Ehon. It seems that some of them are arranged recipes written by the writer to make it easier for customers to eat.
Also, in order to excite customers just by looking the dishes, she decorates the surroundings of the dish with the unique items of the Ehon characters and reproduces the contents of the Ehon. In “Castella of Guri and Gura”, she puts hats that are unique to Guri and Gura, and adds nuts to express the forest.

Q.What is the attraction of Ehon from a grown-up point of view?

She said, “Ehon alone has value as art, poetry and things, and how to enjoy Ehon differs from person to person. When people grow up, some of them think that Ehon are childish, consequently they read novels and stop reading Ehon.
However, Ehon have an attraction that
Busy grown-up can relax in a short time.”

In addition, for people with mental illness, old memories and fun are effective for the disease, so the Ehon they read in past is effective. One research has shown that Ehon are also effective for dementia.

There are more than 1000 Ehon in this cafe, I found Ehon I read when I was little and I felt nostalgic.
The menu was as attractive as many Ehon. Various people visit this cafe, such as those who come with their families or college students who come to study.

The manager Ms.Ogata is very friendly and she told me various things, so I was able to spend a meaningful time.
