Dependence on thermal power generation and fossil fuel

Problems

In Japan the ratio of thermal power generation is about 65% of the total at the presence.
However there are two big problems.
(1)Thermal power produces more carbon dioxide than other type of power generation.
Because burning fuel is necessary to produce energy,carbon dioxide is come out more.
(2)The more thermal power generation,the more fossil fuel used.
Fossil fuel means oil,coal,and natural gas,
which are made of dead animals and plants by incubating for a long time period.
Usually it remains under the ground,and the amount is limited.
Therefore,if we continue to use the fossil fuel,it will be gone in the future.
Because Japan does not have much oil,we depend on the import.
When the import is strictly limited,we are not able to generate enough power any more.、
To avoid the risk,what should we do?

Our opinions

The current trend is that the thermal electric plant uses LNG instead of oil.
This change leads the less SO2 and NO3 and decreases burden on the environment.
However,LNG also should be limited in amount.
Therefore we have to accererate the change towards recycled energy,
for instance solar energy generation and wave-force generation.　(NOZAKI)

It is an easy way to depend on thermal power generation.
But it has a problem such as carbon dioxide excretion and losing fuel.
I am afraid that the excretion of carbon dioxide affects global heating
and the fuel supply might be stopped from Saudi Arabia.
The nuclear power generation is alternative, but safety is a big concern.
I think that solar generation using the solar panel, geothermal generation and
wind generation should be more popular because they use the natural energy. (SHIRASE)

The big concern regarding the thermal power generation is the environmental effect.
Especially in the advanced countries, environmental protection must be done
and the number of the stations will be decreased.
The fossil fuel is limited and it is not a good idea to put too much
dependency on the thermal power generation in future.
We must consider power generation using natural energy
or even other innovative way to generate power.
I think it is the best way to move forward the technology development
in order to let the natural energy being supplied stably. (ASANO)

Japan depends on the import of oil.
I heard that the natural gas lies under the water around the Senkaku islands.
But there exists a big hurdle. In the meantime, bio-ethanol is eco-friendly energy source.
But it has affected food supply and the news appeared less these days.
Within the limited time and materials, I hope we, Japanese,
will do the best in the investigation. (MIO)
