The report about a lecture on wave-force generation.

I attended the seminar entitled"Engineering System Seminar for High School Students", which was held in Tsukuba University on July 30th. Briefly I would like to tell what I learned. |

What do you image about wave? Most people would remember sea wave. The wave contains a lot of energy. In sometimes turns out to be Tsunami. The energy content of wave is extremely large. The wave power originated from the seaside around Japanese land is estimated about 35 million kW. It is roughly one third of Japanese power consumption. How can you convent wave power to electricity? The photo shows waves generated by the experimental equipment. |

Some ideas to generate power are introduced. The first is the buoy.It floats on the water and the movement up and down convents to electricity. A motor is attached to the top of the buoy, and the rotation of the motor generates power. The wavelength and the weight of the buoy have a relationship when it comes to a certain value, the buoy swings heavily and it can generate more power.。 But there is a concern. Because the wavelength does not keep solo number, the buoy loses swing following the less power generation. The photo shows the experiment of the power generation utilizing the buoy. |

The second is the turbine. When wave pushes out air or pull in, the rotation of the turbine nenerates power. The height change of the wave modulates the air capacity of the room inside the buoy. The air coming out of the room rotates the turbine. The air entering into the room also rotates the turbin. We saw the demonstration during the lecture. The picture shows the shining light. |

The third is the motor.Water over loaded on the motor driven by the wave rotates the motor. The buoy contains a hole which wave is able to jump into, and the motor is set inside the hole. Water goes down through the hole and rotates the motor. This principle is similar to the one utilized in the water power plant. |

The figure is a cartoon to present how the waves generate power. However it has not been in practical use yet. Among clean energy of note,I believe wave power generation is a good alternative. Finally,I thank very much Professor Kyodo for giving a nice lecture. |
