Lazulite is a tectosilicate mineral with sulfate, sulfur and chloride. Lazurite is a product of contact metamorphism of limestone and typically is associated with calcite, pyrite, diopside, humite, forsterite, hauyne and muscovite.
Since it conatins many different materials it is possible to spot may white and yellow spots on this mineral. This mineral can only be made in certain areas because of its special requirements.
The blue piqment created by this mineral is used in ultramarine paint. Actually, the blue part of the famous Tutankhamun mask is also produced by lazulite.
Lazulite was imported to japan in the ancient times carried from Afghaniztan using the Silk Road. |
