The immune system is to create one antibody per antigen and protect the body from the antigen. However, if there are several types of antigens that are similar in shape, one antibody binds to all of them and attacks them. Antigens capable of reacting with the same antibody are called "common antigen". The mutual commonality is called "common antigenicity".

The reaction with this common antigen mainly occurs in type I allergy.

What if this antigen is an allergen? For example, a person with soy allergy has an IgE antibody against that protein in soybean, and it binds and should cause allergic symptoms.

In fact,This soybean protein is very similar in form to the protein contained in the pollen of the birch. That is, the two are common antigens.

Therefore, this person's IgE antibody sometimes reacts to pollen protein of birch crab.

There are many other allergens that have a common antigen, so if you are allergic to a certain item, you should firmly examine the common antigen and be careful about them.

Allergies may have hidden risks of allergens by common antigens besides the allergens that you have, so be careful.

Examples of common antigens in oral allergy syndrome

Oral allergy syndrome is a symptom to appears itchiness etc mainly around the mouth. This is classified as type I, for example, allergens arepollen, fruit, latex.
Allergens that cause oral allergic syndrome have a common antigenicity as a whole. Below is a list of common antigens with particularly strong common antigenicity.

pollen fruit
Shirakamba Apple, peach, kiwi, melon, soy
Grass family Peach, watermelon, melon, tomato, peanut
Mugwort Almond, kiwi, melon, oranges
Cedar Apple, peach, kiwi, melon, tomato
