Overview

When the temperature difference becomes severe or when you are in a place with a lot of irritants such as dust, if sneezing and a runny nose do not stop even though it is not a cold, there is a suspicion of temperature allergy. Temperature change allergy is commonly known and refers to a disease called vasomotor rhinitis, cold urticaria and warm urticaria.
Since the symptoms of allergic rhinitis (hay fever) are similar to the common cold, it is difficult to differentiate between the two. However, when the causative substance can’t be identified, it may be diagnosed as a temperature change allergy.

Symptoms

Runny nose with clear phlegm, sneezing, stuffy nose, cough and urticaria
However, there is no fever.

Cause and mechanism

It is caused by a disorder of the autonomic nervous system due to sudden change in temperature. There are two types of autonomic nervous system, sympathetic and parasympathetic. When the parasympathetic nerve works too much, capillaries near the mucosa of the nose will spread. This causes stuffy nose, sneezing, runny nose and so on.

Conditions where allergy-like symptoms occur easily

When you move from a warm place to a cold place
When you eat hot and irritable things such as curry and ramen
When you breathe cold air in cold places such as at a ski resort
etc.

Treatment

This disease can not be identified only by symptoms. It is because it is indistinguishable from allergic rhinitis (hay fever). It is necessary to check at the hospital to see if there is an allergen. The treatment of a common cold is resting and taking medication such as antipyretics. On the other hand, treatment of allergic rhinitis removes allergens. In this case you will need to heal your autonomic nerves, so you should go to the hospital.

The first way to stop symptoms is to stop going from places suddenly with a big change in temperature from hot and cold. Also, physical strength training is important because as long as you have good physical fitness, the amount of heat in your body increases, so you will be able to withstand degree of change in temperature. Furthermore, it can improve even with a good diet. Ginger, garlic and spices are good for warming the body.
As we explained earlier, the mechanism of this disease is closely related to autonomic nerves. Therefore, large stress, emotional instability and sleep deprivation are not very good.Taking a bath or resting quietly is also effective..

Supplements

When you catch a cold, the color of runny nose is yellowish and it is sticky. That is because white blood cells become yellow after defeating virus/bacteria. However, when you have a temperature change allergy or allergic rhinitis, there is no foreign enemy, so you have a runny nose which isclear, not yellow and sticky.

It is said that females have less muscle mass and less calories than males. That’s why it is statistically said that females are easier to develop temperature change allergies than males.
