アブナ・バトナガー・ロイ

多才なカサック舞踏家である、ロイは1984年に古典舞踏を始めた。師匠の故クダン・ラル・ガンガニの下、カサックの免状を取った後、1986年に故デュルガラルの指導の下でプロの訓練を受けた。
古典舞踏の技術がしっかりしているので、カサック・スタイルのアクア・ダンスをプールで試した時に信用され、インドで初めてカサックの起源と歴史についての地図を準備した。アブナ・バトナガー・ロイは、古典舞踏、宗教舞踏を紹介するために旅をし、ロシアやカナダにも行った。彼女は、この種の舞踏映画にも出演した。最近、ワシントンDCにあるジョージ・ワシントン大学やニューヨークの世界貿易センターやリンカーン・センターでデモンストレーションの講義を行った。

2001年8月、我々は、アブナ・バトナガー・ロイがニューヨークのリンカーン・センターでカサック・ダンスを踊るのを見る機会がありました。数日後、彼女のクイーンズの自宅に招かれ、インタビューしました。カサック・ダンスの起源について聞きました。

「インド古典舞踏は6種類あります。北部、東部、南部、西部で異なったダンス形式があります。」

カサック・ダンスの起源

「カサック・ダンスは、15世紀の寺院にその起源があります。話として、始まりました。寺院の構内は、人々が集まり、神についての気持ち、感情を分かち合いました。徐々に言葉だけでなく、手、体の動き、顔の表情、足の動きが加わってきました。ロウソク、ランプが加わり、ベルが足の動きを強調するために加わりました。」
"Kathak was originated in temples long back before 15th century. This dance form was started as a story telling. And the premises of the temple, when people used to meet each other, they used to share their feelings and emotions there to each other, the social problem for devotional aspect about God. And they were sharing their feelings. And slowly, slowly they added not only through language, hands, body movement, facial, then footwork. And then they started a bleak candlelight... or "the lamp" started. And slowly, slowly they added bells, as you saw in the performance to give more emphasize on the foot work."



カサック・ダンスの歴史

「ムガル皇帝がインドに来てから、このダンスは寺院から宮廷に移った。王たちに宗教的な側面は否定された。宗教的なものから、娯楽のためによく使われるようになった。ゆっくりと、衣装が変わり、王を喜ばすために技術的側面が強調された。そのころ、重要な楽器のタバラが導入された。」
"...when the Mughal emperors came to India, this dance form ...(went) from temples to the court. So devotional aspect was totally denied by the kings. So it was used more for entertainment, instead of only the devotion and feelings. And slowly and slowly the costumes were changed. ...the more technical side was emphasized to entertain kings. At that time the important instrument, the tabla was invented."

現代のカサック

「娯楽や、気持ちを分かち合うことや、物語を伝えるだけでなく、医療目的に使われている。」
"...Later on, this dance form reached to the stage. And not only just for entertainment or just to share their feelings or as a storytelling, this dance form is nowadays, we are using ...for medical purposes."

インドの主要な古典ダンスの形式、他に、バラタナ・チヤ、カサカリ、マニプリ、クチプディ、オリシがある。カサックは、北インドが起源で、ヒンズー教、回教文化の影響下で発展した。複雑な足の動きと足首の約100個のベルをダンサーが鳴らす正確なリズム・パターンが特徴です。男性も女性も踊ります。
