 Pisa (Italy)

Pisa was completed through two discontinuation in 1370 from 1173. It began to incline during the construction of the 3rd layer, and was interrupted in the middle of four layers. It resumed the 100 years after, throughout in the middle of eight layers again for 90 years, and completed in the state where it inclined south at last about 200 years after the construction start.
Moreover, from 1990, when inclined more than this, since it was dangerous, a tourist's entrance was forbidden. However, it will be again opened to the public from 2001.

 It is aslant why.
Since the power concerning the weakness of the foundation and the portion of a foundation is not fixed as a cause, it is because some grounds fell in.
In the plan of those days, although referred to as 100m, since height had become slanting, it was set to 55m of about 1/2 of that now.
However, possibly it did not become so famous if this came to be straight.
The device for not falling
1. In order that bell may prevent 3. land subsidence which does not sound so that * inclination may not be influenced in thickness of stone to accumulate at weight which is different from the middle in all of seven bells of change (it is thinly about the north side) 2. highest story, concrete -- pouring in -- the foundation -- the wall of the strengthening 4. north side -- weight 5. -- which attaches a wire rope in a tower and is pulled from an opposite side -- it is expected by these devices that it will not fall 200 more years
 Galileo Galilei
Galileo was born to the town in this Pisa. He who are an astronomer, a physicist, and a philosopher is called the father of modern science.
A famous experiment will land on the ground simultaneously, if two balls with which weight is different from the eighth floor of this Pisa are dropped. - What "is not related to the speed with which an object falls as for weight" is proved. Was the experiment of a century successful
