Asilomatic conference


The Asiloma conference was a conference where discussions on genetic recombination technology guidelines were held in the United States in 1975. The first international conference on genetic recombination technology, many researchers gathered, discussion on safety was held.
In response to this, the US government established guidelines for genetic modification experiments, etc.

Cartagena Protocol

The Cartagena Protocol (Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety of the Convention on Biological Diversity) was adopted at the resumed meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity in January 2000, 2003 It was concluded in June of the year.

This Protocol focuses on the transboundary movement of genetically modified recombinant products and is concerned with safe transportation, handling and use so as not to adversely affect conservation of biodiversity and sustainable use. It specifies measures to ensure minor protection.

The Cartagena Protocol is signed by 170 countries including Japan, China, Korea and the EU. On the other hand, Countries such as the United States, Canada and Australia are not signed .
