The festival is held in the Lake Ontario Quayside area in Toronto, Canada, which was established in 2001 by the Canadian government, Ontario, and Toronto City. It's developed by Sidewalk Labs, a company owned by Alphabet, Google's holding company.
"The Toronto case is the most advanced version of surveillance capitalism today, and Google could use algorithms for business purposes to interfere with people's behavior." U.S. venture capitalist Roger McNamee wrote in a letter to the city council.
