PROBLEM SOLVING THROUGH INSECT EATING

It is said that the “Food Crisis” will strike us in 2030.
Of course, we are not absolutely sure about that. What we have expected does not always happen.
For example, the “Energy Crisis” was expected for a long time. Due to the shale gas revolution, however, we haven’t experienced it yet. So the “Food Crisis” could be avoided as well.
Still we are currently facing the food problem we need to solve.
Although our food production could cover the whole population of the world and in developed countries we seldom experience a large-scale food shortage, we have 820 million people suffering from hunger especially in developing countries※1Food problems are caused by population explosion, monoculture economy, drought, and the gap between the rich and the poor.
Ultimately, the imbalance in distribution among nations is the main cause.
In developed countries, we dump 1.3 billion tons of food every year※2 and buy up the grains produced in developing countries in order to feed cows and pigs, which drives people in developing countries to starve.
This inequality in social structure is creating current food problems.
Although human beings use about 40% of habitable land to produce animal feed, the land produces only less than 20% of calorie supply※3 .
If all the people in the world were to consume as much food as people in America, France and Australia do, we would not have enough land on the earth. However rich developing countries become, they cannot enjoy the same diet all over the world※4.

Whether we have the food crisis in the future or not, the imbalance will be there. So we will have the food problem. A solution to this is worms and insects for food. It will solve both the short supply and the imbalance in supply. Rich in nutrition, wide in variety, and efficiently produced, this novel source of food will surely increase the supply of protein worldwide. Since they need less feed than cows and pigs or they may not even need grain for feed, the grain produced in developing countries can be used to feed people there.

We have not, however, prepared a large-scale production and distribution system yet. And consumers are not ready, either. That is why it solves FUTURE food problems.

We are sure that we can enjoy eating insects as part of our culture, not because we have to take protein or solve food problems, but because they are delicious.

The purpose of this website is to increase the number of people who accept worms and insects as food. We would like to encourage more people to eat worms and insects. In order to remove the biggest barrier, a feeling of dislike, we want to let people know how amazing worms and insects are and help people enjoy a preference for novel food.
