The Hakodate customs which has long history began in Ansei6 (1859).
After Japan finshed closing the country ,
Hakodate was opened as a port to trade, and so Hakodate customs was named "Hakodate unjyojyo".

We asked Mr.Yamamoto Toshihiro about work of customs.

Ｑ１：today,electronic books has become talk of the world, how will you import electroric data?
         If Japan start import electroric data,what will be its impact on Japan.

Ａ１：It is difficult to classify electronic data.

Ｑ２：If ssome insectos were on the food imported to Japan,how do you disinfect it?

Ａ２： For example, if some insects were on bananas,primarily
         we put bananas into a warehouse and seal them up.
         And we disinfect bananas with gas of hydrocyanic to kill insects for about 30 minutes.
         But we don't let bananas go out for 5 hours
         because gus of hidrocyanic is dangerous to human badies.
         Disinfection kakes too long time, and so sometimes we can't sell the bananas.
         And if some insects are not on the food but on woods,we made shipment as a whole.

Ｑ３：What kind of ways of smuggling are there now?

Ａ３：Drugs were smuggled subtle approach such as putting it into chocolate.
         Much drug were smuggled with them were piled hight with the heavy traffic.

Ａ６："Drug-suiffing-dogs" are active of prevention of drug imporing at airport,
         seaport and international post office.
         We use "German shepherd","Golden retriever"now.
         "Drug-suiffing-dogs"works until 50 ywars old (in human terms)
         after they were trained for 4 months and passed an exam

Ｑ７：what items we can't carry in Japan

Ａ７：there are some things regulated such as animals and plants regulated
         by a Washington treaty or forged big name brands.
