Workers' Accident Compensation Insurance Act

The Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance Act is a law enacted to provide workers with the necessary costs for treatment of injuries and illnesses suffered during work or commuting, as well as to support their social reintegration.

The worker's compensation insurance system is applicable to all workers, from regular employees of large companies to employees of small and medium companies, part-timers as defined in the law as "people employed in a business who is paid wages regardless of their occupation".

Types of Insurance Benefits

Survivors' benefit

In the event of death for business reasons, the bereaved family will receive a pension or lump sum payment.

Medical treatment benefit

It's a system that you do not need to pay for treatment when you get sick or injured for business reasons.

Temporary absence benefit

If you cannot go to work because of injury or illness caused by work, about 80% of your salary will be paid.

Nursing care benefits

It's a system that you do not have to pay for the expenses when you receive nursing care due to injury or illness caused by work.

Disability benefit

If you become disabled for business reasons, you will receive a pension or a lump-sum payment.

Social rehabilitation promotion projects

The premiums under the workmen's accident compensation insurance system are also used in three major types of projects: (1) social rehabilitation promotion projects, (2) victim worker assistance projects, and (3) safety and health assurance projects.

(1) Social rehabilitation promotion projects

A project to bear the cost of purchasing prosthetic devices such as artificial limbs, after-sales care after treatment is completed, and periodic medical examinations for people who have been disabled for business reasons.

(2)Support Project for Workers Who Suffer Work-related Accident

A project to bear school expenses for children who have difficulty paying school expenses due to a decline in income, etc, and to construct and operate facilities such as Care Plazas which provide treatment and nursing care for workers suffering from work-related accident.

(3)Project to Ensure Safety and Health

This program aims to reduce the causes of accidents by providing subsidies to small and medium-sized companies that have succeeded in reducing long working hours and holding seminars to prevent long working hours.
