Yukichi Fukuzawa

He is a school teacher from Nakatsu feudal clan (Oita), a thinker. He was very brilliant. So the shogunate acknowledged his academic ability and he went to San Francisco on Kanrinmaru to study abroad. After it, he went to Europe to study abroad and deepened the understanding about foreign countries. He wrote various books about foreign countries, how Japan should be in the future and so on. He also funded Keio University. His masterpieces are "学問のすゝめ(Gakumon no susume)" and "西洋事情(Seiyoujijo)".

Hououzou in Byodo-in Temple

One of the site of a world heritage site “Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto” in Uji city, "Byodo-in Temple", has big Hououzou(statue of fenix). Yorimichi Fujiwara made it.

There was the thought that there was the times called "the degenerate age” in buddism. It is the thought that right Buddhism gradually declined as the generation passed began after Buddha died in the world of the Buddhism. Ichiyo Higuchi

She is a woman writer from Tokyo prefecture in Meiji era. She belonged to Romantic group. たけくらべ(Takekurabe) and にごりえ(Nigorie) are her masterpiece. She died when she was 24 years old by tuberculosis. She was the second woman who chosen as the motif of money in history in Japan.

燕子花

The picture was drawn by Kourin Ogata (1658-1716). Kourin Ogata is a painter of the Edo era known for the thing that composition is novel and is superior. In addition, this picture is appointed to a national treasure.

Shureimon

Shureimon is a gate Shyureimon Shuri Castle in Okinawa prefecture. The castle was used for a palace of Ryukyu kingdom at the end of 14th century. Until 1897, it prospered as a King of Ryukyu nation's capital after Hashi Sho who was the King of the then Ryukyu kingdom came to live in the 15th century. However, all the buildings which there was in Shuri Castle without Shyureimon in the case of the bombing of the Okinawa war in case of World War II have disappeared. It was restored to the original state in 1953 and was enrolled in a world heritage in 2000.

"The Tale of Genji picture scroll"

In the Heian era, a story "The Tale of Genji" was written by a Japanese beauty-berry. the picture scroll which made the contents of this book a picture approximately 150 years after it was made this book "is The Tale of Genji picture scroll". This is appointed to a national treasure, too.
