By the Yayoi period,there appeared dwellings and storehouses supported high above the ground. Such elevated dwellings are found throughout South-East Asia in regions where flooding occurs in the rainy season and aon slopes of mountain districts. Elevated storehouses are found all over the world.

It is the rulers buried in the turmuri who are believed to have lived in dwellings with elevated floors; ordinary people lived in pit-dwellings or ground-level dwellings, perhaps because there was not such a great risk of flooding. We expect to see such discoveries in future,especially in the advanced areas like the Kinki district.
