The silkworms which we raise began to make cocoons. We have never eaten creatures we raised. We did not want to do that, but decided to eat them.
We remembered many things, especially a story of a cow named “Mi-chan”. One day, Mi-chan which had been raised by a girl was sold. Mr. Sakamoto hesitated to slaughter the cow, but finally, he decided to do it because he didn’t want someone who knew nothing about Mi-chan to slaughter the cow. We just eat what was served, but there are people who raise lives and kill them. We knew that, but we realized the importance of lives even more when we actually experience the process. We thought that we might be trying not to think about that in our daily lives. but this is what it means to receive lives. We said “Itadakimasu” and “gochisousama” with stronger feelings.
Silkworms become pupas by making cocoons. Different silkworms became cocoons at different times. We decided to taste silkworms 5th, 6th and 7th days after they started to make cocoons and compare the tastes..
Every silkworm was delicious, but the 5th day’s silkworms were the best. We did not feel like eating much, but all the team members, including those who did not breed them ate just fried silkworms. We all found them delicious.
Silkworms stopped moving after they became pupas, but when we started frying them, they moved for some seconds. We thought they might be feeling pain while moving. We made their moving time shorter by putting them on the pan stomach down.
