5G technology is expected to make a significant contribution to the automobile society of the future.

5G technology will be indispensable for the realization of autonomous driving. It is considered to exchange information with each other to drive smoothly, and to remotely control automobiles to assist autonomous driving. However, Realization of these involves the transmission and reception of huge amounts of data. Since 4G so far cannot handle this huge amount of data, it is essential to use 5G.

Traffic lights

According to the materials released by the Cabinet, there are currently about 200,000 ^[1] traffic lights in Japan. The government has come up with a plan to alleviate traffic congestion and assist autonomous driving by networking all of these traffic lights using 5G and controlling them efficiently. If this is achieved, it may be less likely to wait for a signal in the future.
