Why Toxoplasmosis Occurs
Humans are infected through the feces of the definitive host, cats.
Meat from cows, pigs, chickens, and sheep can also contain Toxoplasma cysts and can be infected. Therefore, in order to prevent infection, it is desirable to heat it before eating.
Main symptoms
Healthy people do not have any noticeable symptoms, but AIDS-compromised people can develop fever, lymphadenitis, and encephalitis.
Also, if a pregnant woman is infected with Toxoplasma for the first time, the rapidly multiplying parasite can cross the placenta and reach the fetus, causing congenital toxoplasmosis with stillbirth, premature birth, and brain and eye damage.
Prevention method
Instead of avoiding unnecessary contact with cats, Toxoplasma oocysts are only excreted by the final host cat for a few weeks after initial infection, so keep your cat's litter box clean and your garden soil clean. Please wash your hands thoroughly after touching sand in the park. Avoiding raw cattle and sheep can also prevent human infection.
