The Research of Dr.Yamanaka Section

In this department,studying about the beginning of Dr. Shinya Yamanaka's research will be carried out.

Dr. Shinya Yamanaka took an interest in ES cells because mouse genes I was studying when I was studying abroad to the United States was important thing as to ES cells.

Dr.Yamanaka challenged making induced pluripotent stem cells without destroying fertilized eggs instead of ES cells.

He aimed at converting skin cells into induced pluripotent stem cells like ES cells.

However, the shape and faculty of skin cells and ES cells is completely different each other.

This is because the proteins working in these cells is different.

Then,he thought "It is something that I　should do to equalize proteins working in skin cells with active proteins in ES cells,isn't it?

Then,skin cells will have the faculty like ES cells,don't them?"

Then,he decided to use a gene (a mass of proteins) of carrier called "retroviral vector" as a way to send proteins in ES cells to skin cells.

Research of pinpointing active proteins in ES cells has started since 2000.
