In Japan, agricultural problems are also said to be serious. Agricultural problems are highly related to food problems.
Currently, Japanese agriculture has many problems such as aging of farmers and shortage of successors.
Less than 3% of Japanese population, about 3 million farmers, are supplying food to Japanese people.
The average age of farmers is over 65, and farmland as large as Saitama Prefecture are left uncultivated because of the shortage of farmers, there are derelict lands for farming as large as Saitama prefecture. Also, Japanese agriculture has been damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake and TPP issues.
But, from now on, dietary habit will be improved and the consumption of meat will probably increase, the demand of cereal crops, such as corns and soy, to feed farm barn animals will increase.
This can be said, from the situation in developing countries such as India, China, Southeastern Asia, that the more population increases, the richer the dietary habit becomes.
Currently, Japan depends on the import of corns and soy for barn animals.
The cereal market will get more strict and will be damaged by sharp increase in the price.
During that time, if Japan joins TPP and the trade of agricultural products becomes liberalized, Japanese farmers cannot stand a chance.
If cheaper agricultural products from other countries are sold in Japan and products grown by Japanese farmers are driven out of the market.
Crops branding can be considered, but we have to bring the worse situation into view.
Agriculture is the source of our food, so it is important to solve the agricultural problems in order to solve the food problems.
