     The classification on the material

There are two kinds of materials used in animations; “plane-material” and”solid material”.

     <Solid Material>

     ■Doll animations

This is a kind of Stop motion animation.
As its name, it is to take a object (usually dolls) like “frame filming”.
It is also called “Puppet animations”, but it is differed from puppet plays.

     ■Clay animations

This is a kind of Doll animation.
This is to take an object (usually clays) and lead clay animations to be more flexible.
Compared to other ways of filming, there are lots of disadvantages: such as human work, time, cost, etc. However, its original creativity is highly evaluated.
Clay dolls

     ■Pixilation

This is a kind Stop motion animation.
This is to take actual actor or object like “frame filming”.
The largest advantage of this is the point where it is possible to take impossible actions of human (for example by taking a jumping person in a particular sequence)

     <Plane Material>

     ■Cel animations

This is a kind of animation that is mainly made by cel pictures.
It is the method that it used most common in the animation field.
Nowadays, all animations are made by computer because of the technical evolution and none of them still uses cel pictures, though still this term is still familiar to animation industries.

     ■Paper animation

This is a kind of animation that is made by drawing a picture on a sheet of paper.
This method was used often at the first ages of creating animations. A large amount of picture and people is needed so it’s not suitable for business.
On the other hand, to make paper animation, there is no need to prepare special equipments so it is suitable for making it individually.
There are various kinds of plane materials such as pin screens, oil painting, sand pictures, blackboard chalks and so on.
