October 25, 2014 Mt. Fuji Clean Project
At the lecture, we heard about the current situation of Mt. Fuji. We learned about the further issues of Mt. Fuji and illegal dumping. We understood these were familiar problems. Mt. Fuji was officially registered as a World's Cultural Heritage site on June of 2013. 300,000 hikers climb Mt. Fuji ever year. Due to the efforts of volunteer groups, many hikers became aware of garbage, and there are only a few amount of garbage at the fifth station of Mt. Fuji and above. Yet, illegal dumping of industrial wastes at the foot of Mt. Fuji is a big concern. Through our experience of volunteer work, we found the way of decreasing garbage. We can live at the same house for a long time by renovation. We also learned that it costs a huge amount of money to clean up trash and garbage. There were much more garbage to be collected although the budget this time was for two containers.
