It refers to the activity that protect the sea by fair fishing.
Recently, some fisher ignores rules and overfish. As a result, not only the volume of ell catch but also of other sea fishes are declining. More importantly, ocean resources are running short year by year. If nothing is done to change this situation, there is a great possibility that we would not be able to eat any fishes in the future.
Sustainable seafood thus is vital in this situation. Fishers should must fish with rules and with the consideration of the health of ocean. As consumers, we should support this method by buying such seafood.
For the future and the harmony of human being and ocean, Sustainable seafood is accumulating attention from all over the world.
What are the differences between Sustainable seafood and ordinary fishes?
・Sustainable seafood was caught in eco-friendly way.
・Sustainable seafood are not poached.
・Sustainable seafood was not caught in the any ways that ignoring an ecological system.
We can know whether the fish is sustainable seafood or not by a certified marks
MSC eco label and ASC logo.
Those marks enable us to figure out eco-friendly seafood easily. The taste and look of sustainable seafood are same as normal fish. We ate a mackerel that acquires MSC certification and a salmon that acquires ASC certification as tests, and found out that those were as delicious as ordinary ones. In addition, as they are eco-friendly fishes, we can fully enjoy them without feeling guilty that we abuse environment.
MSC eco label
MSC eco label is only applied to wild fish or seafood from fisheries that have been certified to the MSC Fisheries Standard, a science-based set of requirements for sustainable fishing.

Why is sustainable seafood an effective way to preserve eel?
In Japan, less is known about the Sustainable seafood and certificated fisheries are few. But we believe with the spread of this activity, eel fishery will become more and more eco-friendly. More and more certificated eels will be sold in Japan. In this way, a well-balanced relationship between ocean, fishery, and consumer will be built.
However, as we mentioned above, the poor awareness in Japan is a problem.
