Lung immune system
The cells that play a central role in the lung's immune system are a type of large white blood cell called alveolar macrophages.
Alveolar macrophages that have taken up the antigen that has entered the lungs inform other immune cells of their presence.
This series of functions is called the antigen presentation function.
Reaction after smoking
When harmful particles contained in tobacco enter the lungs, alveolar macrophages take up the particles and generate a large amount of highly reactive substance called active oxygen. This active oxygen reacts with various substances in the process of metabolism performed in the body, but when the amount is excessive, it causes cell damage. Therefore, a large amount of active oxygen is generated from the smoke generated by igniting a cigarette, and the large amount of active oxygen causes cell damage. When alveolar macrophages are damaged, not only does the antigen-presenting function fail, but the entire immune system also fails. Not only does this make them more susceptible to illness and cure, but it also increases the likelihood that normal cells will be mutated into cancer cells. Not only that, but it is also thought to be a factor in rheumatism, so quitting smoking is the first step in building a healthy body.
Periodontal disease
There are about 300 to 500 types of bacteria in the mouth. It is usually harmless, but if you brush your teeth poorly, you will get plaque, a mass of these bacteria. It is said that bacteria that cause periodontal disease are specifically present in this plaque. When these bacteria accumulate between the teeth and gums (gingiva), the margins of the gums become inflamed, and eventually the periodontal pockets (the boundary between the teeth and gums) become deeper, and the bones that support the teeth (alveolar bone) will melts. Also, if you leave it without removing plaque, it will change to a hard substance called tartar. Bacteria get into and around the tartar, which causes periodontal disease to progress.
In addition, periodontal disease is a condition in which inflammation continues, that is, an immune response is occurring all the time, so the immune response is prone to malfunction, the risk of developing autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis is inevitably increased.
Stress
"My stomach hurts before the regular test." "I was busy with work and caught a cold when I stayed up all night." "Recently, I have a headache because of unpleasant things." I think there are many people who have had such experiences.
When we receive continuous and intense stress, in response to stress, steroid hormones and neurotransmitters are secreted from the brain, which reduces the function of lymphocytes and cells in white blood cells. A well-balanced diet (see [Diet]), good sleep, and light exercise are good ways to deal with stress. In the event of a disaster, there are many calls at evacuation centers to say, Stress is a great enemy of immunity" and "Do not carry stress and exercise moderately."
Laugh
When a person laughs, natural killer cells (NK cells), which are a type of immune cells, increase. Surprisingly, it has been reported that smirking also boosts immunity, so making a smile is effective even when you are sad or in trouble.
