Characteristics of N-NOSE
N-NOSE has a colorless, transparent body that is elongated and string-like, and has no segmental structure. N-NOSE can be divided into free living nematodes that feed on decomposed organic matter and bacteria and parasitic nematodes that live parasitically on animals and plants as hosts.Free living nematodes exist everywhere, such as mountains and rivers, while parasitic nematodes parasitize animals and plants.
Among them, parasitic nematodes are considered to be troublesome pests that cause enormous damage to crop yields and poor quality.
What's great about N-NOSE
Studies have shown that dogs can sniff out cancer patients. Although it hasn't been identified yet, cancer seems to have some kind of distinctive smell. "N-NOSE" uses the property of nematodes, which are about 1 mm in length, to approach the urine of cancer patients and move away from the urine of healthy people as a sensor. According to a study published in an American scientific journal by a team from Kyushu University in 2015, it was possible to determine the presence or absence of cancer, including early cancer, with 95% accuracy.
I knew about nematodes on TV, but I didn't know what they actually did.
