I interviewed them about what they think about genome editing, especially designer babies, from the standpoint of parents.

• From a parent's point of view, do you want your child to be born as he or she is? Do you want them to be born in an ideal form?

Are you for or against designer babies?

Mother agree.
Genetic selection will eliminate the weak genes, so why not use science to speed up the process?
Some people think that if they change their genes, they are not our children, but I don't think it matters because family is family even if you change your genes.

Father disagree.
If it is for the prevention of congenital diseases, I think it should be allowed, but editing inside the body is riskier than outside the body, and there are concerns about side effects.

From a parent's point of view, do you want your child to be born as he or she is? Do you want them to be born in an ideal form?

Mother, I want you to be born in your ideal form.
I want my child to live a happy life without complexes, so if I can give birth to an ideal form, I would like to.

Father, I want you to be born just the way you are.
Since society and common sense are constantly changing, it is impossible to know whether the ideal form of today is the ideal form of the future, and there is a high possibility that it will not be. There is a high possibility that this will not be the case. Also, there is a possibility that the child's potential will be crushed.

I don't think parents should be allowed to make their own decisions since genome editing is not based on their own will. And I still think it is ethically problematic.

I can understand if it is to build up resistance to the disease, but I don't think it should be to change one's appearance. If bullying occurs because of one's appearance. If the bullying is because of one's appearance, there is an option to change one's appearance with the consent of the person, such as plastic surgery in the case of the face.
