We dyed cloth with Japanese indigo!
A workman in Tokushima taught us how to dye cloth and the knack of it through the Internet and we dyed white cloth with indigo he gave us.

Because our hands became blue, we use rubber gloves but some of students dyed it with their bare hands.
Indigo is natural and safe. That’s why we were able to dye it with their bare hands and throw away the used water.
When dyeing clothes, I found something fluffy on the surface of indigo liquid, which is called “the flower of indigo”, the color changed after dyeing cloth so I felt that indigo is a creature .
After that, we told “thank you” to the indigo liquid! At first I didn't want my hands enter the indigo liquid, but finally I really enjoyed dyeing cloth and came to like it. Before this experience, I hadn’t known indigo dyeing at all and had had an image that it had been old and not cool. But now I think it cool and I am interested in Japanese traditional techniques.

I created clothes with the cloth I dyed with indigo. This was the first time for me to create the clothes but I worked hard to create fashionable clothes which I was able to wear outside.

After that, I wore the clothes and had taken pictures. And I made a catalogue with using them.
It was harder than I had expected to decide the price of the clothes and think of a sales copy. I was surprised to know it took much time to create and sell only one clothes. Through this experience, I think I could appreciate my clothes !

Today, our "Ethical Fashion Show" was held in the school festival. I took part in it as one of the models.
I wore the clothes I created and walked in front of the audience. Before walking, I gave the audience a detailed explanation of the ethical fashion so I was able to have them understand the merits of it.

I remade my old clothes and a jute bag, which was used when
coffee beans were carried from foreign countries and thrown away usually to a bag. KISSACO cooperated
with us to remake them. KISSACO
is a brand which remakes jute bags and sell them.
Thanks to KISSACO’s cooperation, we were able to make very fashionable bags in only two hours!
My friends made unique and cute bags and my friends and I enjoyed making bags.

In Taiwan, I made a presentation about the
relationship between the environmental problems and the clothes in English. We
had short time so we devised a way to do it. For example, we remembered what we wanted to tell Taiwan students and when saying
important words we said the words with a little
bigger voice
.
I was so embarrassed but I was happy to have the students in Taiwan know the problems. Through this presentation, I thought we could help many people in Taiwan to become interested in our activity and the problems.

between clothes and the environmental problems
with high school students.
After the presentations about
the situation of each country, we thought about and discussed the way to solve
the problems together. Then, there were many ideas for example holding an
ethical fashion show, using SNS to make many people get to know these problems
and so on. At last, we organized the ideas on the paper with pictures and figures
and presented our ideas to the other groups using the paper.
It was good to organize the ideas on the paper.
This experience was valuable to know the audience came to be in it !

Because of practicing my presentation a lot, I was able to make the best
presentation that I have had. The audience came to have an interest in it. Also,
the other students' presentations were so interesting for me. I realized that
few people
know the relation between the clothes and the environment.
I want to try many things to spread this problem and my idea to solve it.

Ethical consumption gets to interest the government and famous people, for example Ms. Akie Abe, a prefectural governor of Tottori Prefecture and a minister Kono and so on, also took part in it.
There I made a presentation to say “We want the chances to make as many people know about ethical consumption”. We suggested the key word that“Everyone Enjoy Ethical(3Es)”.
Even if ethical consumption is so good, you cannot be interested in it and do it if you don't have chance to know it, I think. So I hope that our messages will be spreaded and ethical consumption will be common in the future.

Our theme is “Clothes bring happiness to the earth”and we wrote about the relation between clothes and environmental problems. The paper says that consumer’s consciousness is important and education is also the best way to solve it.
Then, our paper won honorable mention at the award! Honorable mention is the third award. We joined the award ceremony in Chuo University and we appeared in “High school newspaper”. We are glad that many people recognize our opinions.
