Bicycle utilization promotion law
While the number of bicycle ownerships has increased and diversified, the "Bicycle Utilization Promotion Act" came into force in May 2017. This was the first law to set the "position" of the bicycle as a country, and it was clearly defined as "to promote the use of bicycles throughout the country" by the enforcement of this law. So, what will change with respect to the use of bicycles by this enforcement?

The purpose
The law is a law to "promote the utilization of bicycles comprehensively and systematically". So why have laws developed to promote the use of bicycles now? It is speculated that bicycles bring various benefits to us and the environment.
The following merits are provided by bicycle use.
・Environmentally friendly (do not emit carbon dioxide)
・Relaxing traffic congestion
・Good for health
・Utilization in the event of a disaster
Basic policy
It is the contents of Article 8 "Basic Policy" of the same law.

This law stipulates measures such as maintenance of bicycle exclusive roads and traffic zones, maintenance of share cycles, maintenance of bicycle racing facilities, traffic safety education and enlightenment.
