Road sign
Do you know? The meaning of that sign
Regarding bicycle safe use five rules as stated above, it is questionable whether junior high and high school students understand the road signs necessary to observe the rules.
We have never acquired a driver's license and we have never learned signs. In spite of that, there are cases where you can be fined for traffic violations.
As a prerequisite for observing the basic rules, at least it is necessary to understand road signs for bicycles.
Pause
Signs that need to be paused
It is a sign that you often see, both bicycles and pedestrians are obliged to suspend. Do you observe?
Bikeway
Vehicles other than bicycles, pedestrians can not pass. Bidirectional traffic is possible unlike ordinary bicycle dedicated traffic zones.
It is a sign that you see on a road like a bicycle road and a sidewalk are separated by a sidewalk, not a regular bicycle-only traffic zone painted blue.
Bike and pedestrian way
Bike and pedestrian way
It is a road on which a bicycle and pedestrians can pass. Other vehicles such as cars can not pass. However, pedestrians have priority.
Bicycle cross zone
It is a crosswalk where a bicycle can pass. At the intersection there are also cases marked with a bicycle illustration and a white band on the ground.
Crosswalk / Bicycle cross zone
It is a crosswalk where bicycles can also pass.
Bicycle passage closure
It is a sign that bicycle passage must not pass.
However, as long as you get off the bicycle and pull it, you can pass as a pedestrian.
No bicycle entry at the intersection
Bicycles are prohibited from entering intersections beyond road signs.
The bicycle that came along the roadway must run on the sidewalk.
Allowed parallel running
Normally running in side by side is prohibited, but if there is this sign, it is allowed to run side by side up to two.
I mainly cited only signs related to bicycles. Histograms are also easy to understand with relatively common signs, you could understand the approximate meaning. Do you understand the following signs?
These two are either "one way" or "left turnable" signs, can you understand either immediately?
The sign of a white arrow on the blue ground is "one way".
The sign on the bottom is a sign of "left turnable". This "sign for left turning" sign means "marking board indicating that it is possible to turn left regardless of the traffic signal", even if the face-to-face signal is red, you can only turn left.
In this way, there are many complicated signs that are hard to understand and can not be readily understood, but when driving a bicycle, "I do not know" is not done.
Auxiliary sign
There are many cases where signs are attached with auxiliary signs, and they are used like the figure below.
In this sign, 7: 30 ~ 8: 30 on weekdays is "pedestrian only", but otherwise it means "bike is passable". Many auxiliary signs designate time and vehicles that can pass.
When traveling on a bicycle, the ability to instantly understand and adapt signs and auxiliary signs is required.
