Investigation for Resolution
We made a poster and participated in The Academic Meeting of the Association of Japanese Geographers autumn 2018 held at Wakayama University in September.
The theme of our research is virtual water. When we make a poster, we adopted the concept, GIS (Geographic Information System) to tell the result of our researching clearly. GIS (*1) is the method to express various results of a data analysis on the map by using computer.
We made two original maps to put the following data on the map by hand.
Map 1
1. Renewable water resources per capita
2. Locations of rivers and mountains
3. The level of water stress
Map 2
1. Virtual water imports
2. Meat and edible meat offal imports
3. Major grain (wheat, rice, maize) imports
4. Virtual water trade
From these data, we found what kind of country has a water shortage and considered water problems of America, Japan and Saudi Arabia in terms of natural conditions and economic conditions and so on.
On the poster session, we got advice from many professors directly and were able to deepen our research.
Our poster won the chairman’s award of the Association of Japanese Geographers. This appears on the website of the Association of Japanese Geographers. Please look at the following website.

On the website, we considered water problems of the other countries such as Brazil, India and Republic of the Congo in addition to three countries.
