Work Experience

Here is a summary of the experiences of people who actually work while they are students. There are many examples, so I would be happy if you could use them as reference when you actually work and feel closer to working.

Member's experience

What made you start your part-time job?

I decided to start my part-time job for three reasons: I needed money to start playing an instrument, I needed to have an experience that I could not get in school, and I thought it would be better to have an actual working experience to create this site that deals with work.

Using the part-time job site, I deside on a part-time job considering the schedule of club activities and the following three points.

Time Management

When I started working part-time, the first thing I faced was the problem of time management. I work from 17: 00 through 21: 30 and get home around 22: 00. I go to to bed late at night on the day of work and I still have trouble dealing with this. More efficient planning is required to complete school assignment than ever before.

Balance with studies

Right after I started my part-time job, there was a sudden change in my life rhythm and I was not used to it, so I could not make time to study well and my grades went down a little. After about two months, I gradually got used to life and my grades improved again. Even so, the amount of time available has naturally decreased, so the absorption in class time has become more important.

2. I had time during the summer vacation. I wanted to make money.

4. I liked serving customers service jobs, so it was fun. Staff meals were delicious.
5. It was physically hard because it was my first job. It was also hard to balance with studies.
6. Since the workplace did not exploits its employee, it is highly recommended if you like serving customers.

8. It depends on the person's situation. Since I started working part-time for half-baked reasons, it was hard to work. I thought it was important to decide the purpouse when you started working.

3. Because I had time during summer break and I wanted to get money.
4. My customer service skill was improved. I became able to to use the cash register though I am not good at.
5. When I was asked if I could increase my shift, I could not refuse because all the other part-time workers are my superior. There was a strict surerior.
6. It was during summer vacation and the shift was 2 days a week, so it would have been better if I could have made a plan for my shift submission and study.
7. It's hard, but I recommend it. The hourly pay is good. The customers are safe.
8. If you want money, do it. If you need to study hard, you can reduce your shift.

2. Since last September until now, but I will be absent this month and next month from work because I am busy with my studies.
3. Because I needed money, I wanted to have a social experience, wanted to make a fresh start and wanted physical strength.
4. Our school calls it diversity, but there are students who are somewhat similar to each other in deviation value, home environment and such. At the workplace I was able to relate to people in from different class and situation from my school, because my colleagues are housewives and students. It gave me a new view of the world.
People who belong to the same school are somewhat close to each other and lack diversity. However, at workplace colleagues have different backgrounds, so I thought they are diverse. Therefore, I think I could expand my horizon.
The manager is young. It is easy to take a day off because there are enough part-time workers. I was able to take two months off easily. I am blessed with workplace.
5. Relationships with co-workers. I'm in a weak position in my part-time job.
6. I can manage both part time job and studies .When I started working, I told my manager that I could not take many shifts and I can get a fair amount of days-off.
7. If the fact that I introduce you to the workplace is always around, I do not want to recommend it because I might be in a weak position in the part time job. The workplace itself is in good condition, so I think I can recommend it.
8. Part-time jobs: The need for money and social experience depends on people, so if you want to do it, you can do it. I recommend people who do not have much contact with people outside school because you will feel how world is wide.

3. I wanted to work in restaurant industry.
4. You can get money. My co-workers are so friendly that manager says "I want to go home" very often. Also, I can eat dishes with 60% discount.
5. The workplace did not exploits us. Store managers are also non-regular employees. Normally, full-time employees should be dispatched from the head office to work as store managers, But the leader of part-timers are actually working as store managers. The reason is that the salary of a part-time worker is half of that of a regular worker and that there is a labor shortage. In addition, although a system of regular employee assessment probably exists, it is also possible to infer that even a regular employee who assess regular employees may not be able to be dispatched because of labor shortage.
Around June and July, due to chronic labor shortage, the store manager (part leader) worked 14 days of consecutive work shift. The manager complained that he wanted to take a day off at the store's group line.
When a certain number of people required to run a restaurant cannot be gathered, it is called "minus". For example, if you need to shift four people, but only three can work. If there is a minus sign, they will contact you saying, "There is a minus. Please come.". People who can work here will come forward to solve the minus. The chronic manpower shortage that often causes this minus can force you to work even when you are busy with other stuff to do. You have to find a substitute when you are absent. I think this is the same for many part-time jobs, but it is hard to find them due to labour shortage. Therefore, there have been many times in the past that I went to work when I was sick, even though the workplace is in a restaurant business. Usually the shift is until 18 o'clock, but it is often extended to 21 o'clock. Many of the employees on this shift are housewives, so if they cannot go home earlier, their families could suffer.
A restaurant hall stuff should be work-ready. A person who is quick to learn is suitable in the workplace. I was not good at working as a hall stuff in the restaurant, sometimes I felt they were hard on me.
6. I do not recommend my workplace to others, but if you want to know restaurant business, Part-time job is a good idea. There aren't many high school students and I am happy working with them.
7. I cannot decide yes or no.

You can feel that there are good people in society.
It is interesting that I can imagine the structure of the restaurants I usually go to. You can get money. The salary of a part-time worker is very small compared to that of an adult. However, you can get a sense of "earning money" before you become a member of society.
You can learn the importance of cutting corners. It's good to be serious, but if you're too serious, you'll lose yourself. Therefore, if you work part-time, you will inevitably be able to learn about cutting corners and the importance of it. I can know my aptitude. You can avoid a similar type of jobs in the future if your part-time job is not suitable for you.
Now, I am working as a dispatched hotel waiter. Comparing with my former job at the restaurant as I mentioned before, it is easy and the hourly-pay is better.

2. It depends on the atmosphere of the workplace, but I basically did it for about 5 months.
3. I need money to buy a musical instrument.
4. Stores in front of the station or along the main street offer relatively high hourly wages.
5. Maybe it's just that I can get money. After I entered high school, my field of activity spread, and I had more opportunities to spend money.
6. A decent workplace really understands the situation of high school students and gives them great treatment such as giving them a break during the test period.
On the other hand, high school students who do not understand society well and they could be exploited badly because of that.I do not have such experience, but I have heard a lot from others.
7. I do not recommend a convenience store. At the busy
convenience store in front of the station, You could get a mental blow from complaints from customers and sarcastic comments from people at work before you learn your job. But it might be a good workplace if you get along with colleagues and customers.
8. I recommend it because you can earn money and learn a lot.
9. I think it's possible to do both part-time work and studies because I do not get a drop in my grades after working part-time.

Interview with University Students

5. I do hot play around so much and I do not need much money. Therefore, I save 85% of my salary.
6. I recommend the workplace because it is nice.
7. If you want to work part-time, you should do it. It is up to you. Saving money is important.

5. I was glad a customer praised me for my good voice. The workplace does not exploit employees.
6. Since I am not good at being forced by others, I feel that I am not suited to the work which is a lump of "Force".
7. I recommend the workplace to others. The workplace was well organized and basically there is no trouble if you work according to the rules.
8. I think working is good for mental health. The happiness of spending your own money is great.

This is the story when I worked for a convenience store in the winter of 2015 to 2016. I finished my part-time job at a convenience store on thursday and when I went there for work on Saturday I found a paper posted in front of the store, saying “the store is being seizured”.I called to the part leader, who do not understand the circumstances,either, said that the store seemed to have gone bankrupt. Later, Japan Unemployment Support Organization for the Advancement of Unemployed Person contacted me and they compensated me for up to 60 to 70% of unpaid wages.

Internship Experience (Mr. J)

We created a subsidiary to conduct new business. We participated in the internship through a university study group because we won a planning competition. We planned a real escape game. Because we thought it could be commercialized, we created a real escape game, which took us for six months making it and then we carried it out and report it to the company. The workload was heavy and sometimes we students had a dispute. Because all of other students were senior to me, I was bothered..Long-term internship could be exploited as cheap labor. Because it was contingency fee system, hourly wage was not good.However when deciding the salary, the company took working hours into consideration.
