Insect-Eating Report

Summary

With the growing interest in insect-eating, we thought it would be important to understand insect-eating by trying it. Therefore, we decided to try insect food and give our impressions on it. We bought insect food from an online shopping site that sells insect foods and had a discussion.
※From the perspective of countermeasures against COVID-19, the meeting was held online.

The Insect Food We Bought

I bought a lot of five types of worms: grasshoppers, mole crickets, crickets, silkworms, and sago worms.

Our Impressions

The whole thing was so crispy that it shattered when crushed, and smelled like cocoa. When we ate it, the texture resembled crustaceans such as shrimp and crab. It tasted like nuts, and despite its grotesque looks, it was surprisingly easy to eat.

Our Thoughts

Since the insect food we ate this time was dried, all five types tasted the same. Although it is not impossible to enjoy the "taste of the ingredients" in this way, we felt that it would be more delicious if we used seasonings and other ingredients and ate them as dishes. Also, insects are grotesque in appearance, and some people might find it impossible to eat them in their original form. If you shred them and make them into sprinkles or use the powder for rice crackers, we think you can enjoy them without worrying about their appearance.
