Tea Production

Current tea production

Japan's tea production is 69800 tons, and Mie's tea leaf production is 5080 tons.
Mie's tea production has dropped considerably, from 2005 to 2021.
Comparing the first and second years of the 20th century, the production volume was 5,080 tons, showing a considerable decline even in the second year.
Then, why is the production volume decreasing year by year?
First of all, the aging of farmers is thought to be the cause of the decline in production. And the cause of the aging is thought to be the lack of successors of tea farmers.
The next cause of the decrease in production is the decline in demand for tea made from tea leaves.
Recently, tea in plastic bottles, not tea made from tea leaves, is more commonly consumed, and tea made from tea leaves is less commonly consumed, which is thought to have led to the decline in tea production.
In addition, recently, the coronavirus has eliminated events and travel, and the decrease in tea consumption has led to fewer purchases by middlemen, which has lowered the motivation of producers and decreased their production.
The solution to this problem is to increase the number of people who drink tea made from tea leaves and other products and increase the number of people who are interested in tea through activities such as spreading the word more about tea, which will lead to an increase in production.

Production of each type of tea

H29 H30 R ex R2 R3
First tea 30,291 32,023 29,439 27,281 26,764
Second tea 20,962 22,362 20,784 17,344 20,480
Third tea 7,012 6,365 5,862 3,704 6,082
fourth-grade tea 22,022 22,906 22,851 19,734 22,141

The amount of tea produced varies greatly depending on the type of tea.
Looking at the table for 2021, production of first-grade tea is about 27,000 tons, second-grade tea about 21,000 tons, third-grade tea about 6,100 tons, and fourth-grade tea about 22,000 tons. Each type of tea produces different amounts of tea, but the difference between No. 1 and No. 3 tea is particularly large. The production of sambancha doubled between 2020 and 2021.
This is because inexpensive products such as drinks sell well, so production increased. Also, demand for tencha, which is used as a sweet overseas, has increased, and production has also increased.
The solution has been to advertise and promote the brand and make consumers aware of it as much as possible.
