Cans, Bottles, and Plastic (Japan)

by Masato Yamashita

In Japan different types of garbage will be collected at different days. The dates and types of garbage being collected varies by region. Unlike here, there are certain locations for collecting garbage by streets or areas.

The people living in that location must throw away garbage there. Cans and glass bottles will be collected on the day of recyclable garbage collection. Besides recyclable trash there is burnable trash, which mainly is paper, unburnable trash which are plastic garbage, ceramics, and metals.

For plastic and glass bottles, bottle caps needs to be taken off and thrown away separately. Bottles and cans need to be rinsed before thrown away. Plastic bottles cannot be collected as recyclable garbage. Instead plastic bottles need will be collected at near by supermarkets and convenience stores.

Spray cans, paint cans, light bulbs cannot be collected as recyclable trash. These garbage should be collected as unburnable garbage.
