Currently, about 3,000 people receive blood transfusions a day, and about 1.2 million people receive blood transfusions a year. About 85% of people who use blood products for transfusion are over 50 years old. About 14,000 people donate blood a day and about 5 million people a year to support the blood transfusion.
However, if nothing is done, it will have a big impact on Japanese medical institutions.
The graph above shows the transition of blood donors by age group for each 7 years from 1995 to 2016 by color. As you can see from this graph, the number of blood donors is decreasing as the years go by. Looking at this graph in detail, a significant decrease in young blood donors is noticeable.
So why is the number of young blood donors declining so much?
The cause is mainly Low Birthrate and Longevity.
