Connection between school and local government
Kitakyushu International Association

With the school and Board of Education, we are holding meetings, doing consultations, and sharing the information as necessary. In particular, it is not rare to require them to share their personal information in order to scrupulously provide better support for them. Therefore, we are always trying to build a relationship of mutual trust so that we can share and exchange information smoothly in such situations. Also, we are receiving understanding and support from the teachers of the school and Board of Education.

In Kitakyushu city, for the children who have their root in foreign countries or whose first language is not Japanese and need Japanese guidance, there are teachers for them called “International kids’ education full-time teachers ” . And in this city, there are five “Center school” where these teachers always stay, and also in the other schools, full-time teachers or instructors who have the same first language with the children are dispatched.

About once a year, there are times when school official staff attend the meeting as a guest in the Information exchange meetings between the support organizations. Even though our association is wanting to cooperate and provide information, the school is not quite taking a positive attitude to do so. We feel there is a considerable distance between the motivation of the support organizations and the response of the school. The government (including schools) thinks that by the good use of the power and motivation of the private sector, it could greatly contribute to solving this problem, but we think it is coming from the decisive difference between advanced Western countries' countermeasures and the Japanese government’s structural constitution.
