Interview with a nurse
Please give me an overview of your work
There are medical assistance for doctors, mental and physical care for patients, nursing research called QC, and participation in academic societies.
Please tell me if there is any change in working style in "work style reform"
At one hospital, there was midnight shift (see graph), when day shift and night shift overlap . The next day, I had to work at night, and I could sleep in the daytime, but I would work almost a whole day , so I was very tired. I feel that this mechanism should be abolished.
Please tell us if there is any change in the way you work today
Due to the corona disaster, the work has increased significantly. Protective clothing, masks, glasses, gloves, and face shields are essential, and they need to be reattached and disinfected many times, so it is hot and time-consuming, which is very difficult.
In terms of ICT, the fact that medical records were digitized was a major factor. It took me some time to get used to it, but once I got used to it, it saved me a lot of time, which is very convenient .
On the downside, I think I have less contact with the patient . In the past, it was common practice to take stretcher patients for a walk with them, and to give patients who complain that they couldn't sleep, soak their feet in hot water instead of giving them medicine immediately.
But now, because I need to study to get certification and research is more active than before, I think it's because I've been busy with work other than contacting patients .
Please let us know if there is any change in how discrimination and harassment are perceived.
Older uniforms were skirts and the fabric was thin, so underwear could show through when crouching, and it was common for patients to see it . In response to that, I think that recently, the number of pants uniforms has increased .
Also, in the past, patients were nicknamed "grandma", but now it is almost impossible. Now, it is basically "san". It can be said that patients choose doctors .
Did you know about the childcare / nursing care leave system?
Have you ever used it?
I knew it, but I've never used either. In childcare, I wanted to see my child grow up until he went to kindergarten, so I left my job b>. However, there was a colleague who was using it .
In long-term care, there are few nurses in the hospital who are currently working, so I can't actually take it. The situation .
What do you think about the future of this profession?
I don't think the profession of a nurse will disappear, but You need to improve your skills to succeed. I think it will come . As mentioned earlier, skill improvement is the acquisition of a system called certification.
Also, I think that medical office work will decrease due to the influence of ICT.
Summary
・ The impact of work style reforms is small, and work styles are different at each hospital rather than the times.
・ Even if the system is in place, there are people who cannot use the system after all because the work environment is not in place.
・ From now on, it will be necessary to obtain certification, but I would like you to focus on interacting with patients.
